Physical Therapy can be extraordinarily helpful for many spinal conditions. Physical therapy generally involves visits once or twice a week with a therapist for a period of several weeks. We generally chose a therapy group with a good reputation that is either close to your work or home or we use someone who you have seen before and that you were happy with. Physical therapy can involve manual therapy and modalities, as well as helping you to develop an exercise program. Spinal stabilization, core strengthening and stretching are all important to good long term spine health. Ultimately a home exercise program is developed that is continued long term by the patient. We often employ physical therapy in a conservative non-surgical approach and we also use physical therapy after surgery to help the patient reach maximal recovery and help prevent future spine problems.
